Protection against Blue Light

Prolonged exposure to Blue Light is mainly caused by natural light, but also by artificial light (through LED lighting, digital devices using LED technology, etc.). This exposure can induce similar physiological responses in the skin to UV exposure, resulting in the typical signs of premature skin aging such as loss of elasticity, dryness and fine lines.

WENEOS has been at the forefront of the development of in vitro methods for assessing the Blue Light (BL) – also known as High Energy Visible (HEV) – Visible (VIS) and Infrared (IR) protection offered by sun protection products. It is a fully validated and impartial independent test.

Note: This test method has not been reviewed or standardized by ISO (International Organization for Standardization), the FDA (U.S. Food and Drug Administration) or any other worldwide regulatory agency. The test report does not provide any guarantee regarding the labeling and/or substantiation of claims, implicit or explicit.

In Vitro Blue Light

This innovative in vitro method consists in assessing the levels of protection against blue light expressed by the BL-CW (UV/BL balance) and the% BL (percentage of BL protection intensity) of a sunscreen product across the spectrum (from 290 nm to 500 nm) measured using a spectrophotometric method. To take account of any potential photoinstability, the product was pre-irradiated before measurement. Finally, this method relies on the use of in vivo SPF results to scale the absorbance curve.
