Application Extreme conditions

In order to guarantee a certain level of repeatability and reproducibility, standards require stable, standardized environmental conditions for the evaluation of sun protection. The UV protection of certain products may be affected by variations in temperature or humidity.

Today’s consumers are increasingly attracted by suncare products that can be applied at any time (in the mountains, on excursions, etc.) and in all conditions of use (tropical, polar, temperate, etc.).

In order to determine and justify the effectiveness of the product to be protected under extreme conditions, WENEOS has developed an exclusive in vitro method based on the comparison of the sun protection factor (SPF) under extreme conditions in terms of temperature and hydrometry. The aim is to guarantee consumers UV protection whatever the season or location.

Application Extreme Conditions

WENEOS has developed a new in vitro method to reliably determine a solar product's ability to withstand various extreme conditions. The five main climate groups based on temperature (°C) and relative humidity (%RH) were selected:
Tropical conditions (A): 40°C - 80%RH
Dry conditions (B): 40°C - 30%RH
Temperate conditions (C): 25°C - 55%RH
Continental conditions (D): 10°C - 80%RH
Polar conditions (E): 10°C - 30%RH
